There are approximately 2830 acres of Upton State Forest scattered throughout Upton and extending into the towns of Grafton, Hopedale, Hopkinton, Mendon, Northbridge and Westborough. The largest contiguous parcel, headquarters area and parking lot for the major trails are located near the intersection of Westborough and Southborough Roads in Upton. The GPS address is 205 Westboro Rd. Do not use Upton State Forest in your directional device since this may send you to Northbridge. For the purposes of this web site, the focus will be on the Headquarters area of Upton State Forest in North Upton. We are interested in hearing from people who have knowledge of historic resources in other sections of Upton State Forest.
Several distinct periods define the history of the lands that comprise Upton State Forest. These periods are layered upon each other, creating opportunities for multiple interpretations of some sites. The intention of this website is to give a brief overview.
